Microsoft got caught up in their own UWP cool aid.

It is not that Windows 10 is not reliable it is that Microsoft had a very poor vision moving Windows forward in the mobile/handheld space. For Microsoft, they have Visual Studio that supports writing applications for Android. SinceĪndroid is dominating the phone market, it makes sense that these companies move to Android. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is doing just fine on other market spaces. IoT Core was a bust since it only support UWP for the GUI. Unfortunately, Microsoft didn't give the companies a path forward to Windows 10. Most of these handheld companies were using Windows CE OS for their handheld devices. Were there any official notifications from Microsoft about this? Maybe they changed positioning of OS or whatever which lead to such strange situation with hardware?Īre things are really so bad, so we definitely should go to Android and forget the Windows platform at all for handheld devices? My question is - does anybody know if Windows 10 IoT platform is really so dead?

So, even if we find and buy Windows 10 IoT-based devices today then we might fail to find appropriate hardware to replace broken devices with a time (while production I found only 1 option (Bluebird EF500) at one supplier but they even do not want to discuss delivery of 100+ devices.Īlso as we see almost all OEM vendors closed their Windows-based lines of handheld products. All local suppliers we talked to (in EU, China, Ukraine) of handheld devices for productions (such as scanners) are telling us = "Windows 10 IoT platform is dead, go to Android".Ĭurrently it is extremely difficult to find Windows 10 IoT-based handhelds to buy.
